Put a Van on the Road: Bring Hot Meals to Hungry Students
โดย WORLD FOOD MOVEMENTRight now, a student is sitting in a college classroom in Silicon Valley with an empty stomach and a pounding headache, waiting for lunch that may not come. One of our students told us: "I normally don't have money every day, so I hold the day until 3 pm. Even my head hurts from hunger."
The World Food Movement exists so that student never has to hold out until 3 pm. Every school day, our kitchen cooks fresh, hot meals. We pack them into insulated boxes, drive them to campus, and hand them to students who would otherwise go without. No forms. No stigma. Just a warm meal and someone who cares.
And it is working, almost too well.
We launched in January 2025. In less than 2 years, we served 30K+ meals to 6,000+ students across 12 campuses in the SF Bay Area including De Anza, Foothill, West Valley, and Chabot colleges. Every new campus means more hungry students who need us.
But we have hit a wall. We have the kitchen. We have volunteers. We have the demand. What we do not have is enough wheels.
Every meal depends on one thing: getting it to campus hot and on time. As we grow, one vehicle cannot reach every campus every day. Every route we cannot cover is a student we cannot feed. Your gift changes that.
$80,000 puts a dedicated delivery van on the road, with the equipment and first-year operating costs to keep it running. It means:
Hot meals reach more campuses, on more days
No existing campus loses service as we grow
Our kitchen can work toward its full 50,000-meal-per-year capacity (we are at about 40% today)
Why this cannot wait:
48% of community college students face food insecurity
34% of California community college students regularly skip meals
Food-insecure students are 43% less likely to graduate
These are future nurses, technicians, and tradespeople. They are the first in their families to go to college. They work, they parent, they carry more than anyone should. The only thing standing between some of them and a full day of learning is a meal.
92% of students rate our food 4 to 5 stars. 93% say getting it is easy. Now we need the van to reach all of them.
Give what you can, or be the sponsor who makes it happen. One van. Thousands of meals. Every school day, for years.
