Ebola Outbreak – DRC & Uganda | Emergency Response

โดย Médecins Sans Frontières

A Ebola outbreak is unfolding in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring Uganda. On 15 May 2026, the Congolese Ministry of Health officially confirmed the outbreak in Ituri province, with 246 suspected cases and more than 80 deaths across three health districts. MSF has immediately mobilized: additional staff and critical supplies are being deployed to affected areas as we work around the clock to contain the spread and treat patients.

MSF's presence in the region is already substantial. Our teams are active at Baraka General Referral Hospital in South Kivu, where we have just brought a major cholera epidemic under control (treating 829+ patients in 2026). This operational footprint means we can scale up fast when crises escalate.

Decades of experience responding to Ebola outbreaks - from West Africa to the DRC's Nord Kivu - make MSF one of the few organizations with the depth of expertise, protocols and trained personnel to respond effectively to this deadly virus. Our teams know what it takes to run Ebola Treatment Centres, protect healthcare workers, and earn the trust of communities in crisis.

We are also pushing the boundaries of innovation in outbreak response. Together with EPFL's EssentialTech Centre, MSF co-developed a SmartPPE, a next-generation protective Ebola suit designed to keep healthcare workers safer for longer and allow patients to see and communicate with their caregivers, restoring humanity in the most difficult moments.

All funds raised will go directly to MSF's Emergency Fund, enabling us to act immediately wherever the need is greatest.
