TNCCR Biological Engineering Research Lab @ Stanford: Synthetic biology tools to improve human and planetary health
At Thirst for kNowledge Creativity Curiosity and Realization (TNCCR), led by Dr. Phillip Kyriakakis, we develop synthetic biology technologies with broad-reaching impact in human health—from gene therapies to open-source research tools—while training the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Our work: We are mainly focused on developing tools to non-invasively deliver gene therapies into neurons to study and treat neurological disorders and reverse aging. This research spans multiple disciplines: we design and build everything from optics and genes to electronics and custom 3D-printed machines. We built OpenEvo (soon to be published), an open-source robot and software platform for flexible automation of directed evolution. We are applying OpenEvo to develop genetic tools for neuroscience research, non-invasive gene therapies, and even to combat climate change.
Your impact: Your donation accelerates the development and deployment of these next-generation tools, tackling some of the most significant challenges in human health. It also supports undergraduate researchers in our lab, including students from local community colleges (Foothill and Mission College). Many former TNCCR students have gone on to PhD or medical programs at Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, UCSD, and more.
Whether or not you donate, you're welcome to visit the lab and see the work firsthand:
