BlackFemaleProject uplifts the voices of Black women, affirms our experiences, and offers insights for achieving self-defined success in the workplace and beyond. We bring Black women together—across generations and industries—to engage in sisterhood; resource and knowledge sharing; inspiration; healing; and growth. All of this work is focused on resolving trauma, improving career experiences for Black women, and improving the overall well being of workplaces for everyone. Since 2014, we have collected and shared women’s stories in print, digital media, and through numerous events in order to center Black women in local, statewide, and national conversations about organizational culture, communications, and wellness at work.
Our work addresses race and gender inequities through an intersectional lens, interrupting some of the many impacts of structural racism and sexism through intergenerational community building. We create space for Black professionals to share and hear their experiences reflected through documentation and dissemination of personal stories of those who’ve managed to navigate challenges and thrive at work, and we also host conversations that allow Black women to share and compare experiences in real time. We celebrate the unique experience and resilience of Black women while also arming the next generation with wisdom and resources to help them thrive in the face of discrimination as well. We believe in the power of storytelling to spur healing, growth, and confidence among Black women and support them to step into leadership and work through barriers.
We envision a world in which Black women are celebrated as our full selves without any negative consequence.
