A world-class, equitable, seamless transit system for the San Francisco Bay Area

Support Seamless Bay Area's work to create a world class, unified, and equitable transit system. Seamless Bay Area is fighting for the funding an policy reforms to integrate the region's 27 fragmented transit agencies into one rider-focused network that makes it easy and fast to get around on transit. We're advocating for coordinated bus, train and ferry lines; clear and consistent signage; common fare policies; and safe, reliable service connecting all parts of our region including the South Bay, Peninsula, San Francisco, North Bay and East Bay.

Bay Area public transit was struggling before Covid-19. For the past several decades, fewer and fewer people have been using transit because it isn't reliable or fast enough. Only about 4% of all trips taken in the Bay Area are on transit, compared to 75% by automobile. The poor quality of our public transit system forces too many people into driving, worsening congestion, limiting access to affordable housing and jobs, and limiting our ability to fight climate change. Transportation is the largest source of California's greenhouse gas emissions, making up 40% of all emissions, and will be impossible reduce unless substantially more people use public transit in the future instead of driving.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made transit far worse, reducing agency budgets and leading to major service cuts, impacting transit dependent people and essential workers reliant on transit the most.

Seamless Bay Area is fighting not only for the funding needed to save Bay Area transit from complete collapse due to the Covid crisis; but also for the transformative reforms that can ensure we are able to rebuild a stronger, more connected system than before, so we can reverse the trend of declining transit use. With key reforms to Bay Area transit agencies, the Bay Area can rebuild a far better, seamless system.
