STEMPower is a fiscally sponsored nonprofit initiative dedicated to expanding access to STEM education for low-income students. Our mission is to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning experiences that students might not otherwise have. Our team creates and delivers STEMPower kits directly to local elementary schools and workshop participants, ensuring that students have the materials they need to explore scientific concepts in an interactive way. Each kit contains instructions to make unique experiments such as balloon-powered cars and mini catapults that teach principles of engineering, allowing students to learn through hands-on exploration. In addition to providing kits, STEMPower is currently organizing recurring summer workshops in partnership with local organizations such as the Barbara Bush Library, where 100+ students will engage with hands-on activities, learn from presentations, collaborate with peers, and receive guidance from mentors to strengthen their understanding of STEM concepts. During each weekly camp, activities and presentation slides are organized by a daily theme (technology, engineering, mathematics, and entrepreneurship). Each daily theme requires specific materials to maximize student engagement and knowledge: access to computer labs, DNA extraction materials, building materials, presentation tools, and circuit kits. By combining hands-on learning with mentorship, STEMPower empowers students to develop skills that will benefit them academically and personally while encouraging curiosity and a lifelong interest in science. The program continues to grow, with plans to expand distribution of STEMPower kits to 20+ elementary schools beyond our local area, start more than 15 school chapters throughout Houston, host other seasonal workshops such as winter and spring, and reach additional schools in underserved communities through funding. Through these efforts, STEMPower hopes to make STEM education more accessible and equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills to explore, innovate, and solve real-world problems.
