Homeless and lost cats are under constant threat from predators, fast cars, mean people, and other territorial cats. They need to find food, water, and shelter every day, but may not be lucky. The Lost Cats (TLC) began feeding, fixing, and rescuing homeless cats in 2017, and became a 501(c)(3) organization in 2022 serving San Mateo and neighboring cities.

We are an all-volunteer organization, making sure every donation directly benefits homeless and lost cats in our city. We have trapped over 300 homeless cats (primarily from San Mateo, Hillsborough, and Burlingame), and had them fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, while also getting them critical veterinary treatment as needed. We also feed over 25 homeless and lost cats on the streets of San Mateo nightly, providing high-quality food and water, as well as plenty of TLC. We support other colonies outside of San Mateo to ensure colonies can be managed providing the best care for each cat. TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) has been shown to be the best opportunity for cats living in colonies to live their lives to the fullest even under difficult circumstances. When possible, we find them homes with compassionate caregivers. Because we are out and about in the neighborhood every night, we have often found lost pets and reunited them with their caregivers. By keeping our focus local, but also helping our neighbor cities when we can, we know all of these homeless and lost cats are truly grateful for our help!
