Rainbow Routes is a new nonprofit reimagining study abroad for LGBTQ+ students.
These aren’t traditional study abroad trips. They’re programs that connect queer students to global LGBTQ+ communities, mentors, and histories, building the kind of intergenerational and international networks we urgently need right now. These programs are a way of saying to queer youth: you belong, you have a future, and you’re not alone.
We partner with universities and LGBTQ+ organizations around the world to design identity-affirming, community-rooted experiences that center queer voices and make global learning accessible, regardless of financial background. By addressing the frequent lack of community support and social isolation experienced by many queer students, Rainbow Routes helps build connection and empowerment, nurturing the next generation of queer leaders who can bridge cultures and generations.
We're planning two domestic programs in 2026, with international ones to follow in 2027. Each trip is projected to cost around $50,000 to run and serves about 25 students (roughly $2,000 per student). Every dollar raised will help make our programs more affordable and accessible.
