JavaJuice (FTC Team #31788) is a rookie, community-based FIRST Tech Challenge team of eight 7th and 8th grade students from Los Gatos, California. Formed by students with a shared passion for engineering and problem-solving, our team brings together prior experience in FIRST LEGO League, custom LEGO design, 3D printing, and block- and Python-based programming to take on the challenges of FTC-level robotics.
Our project focuses on designing, building, and programming a competitive robot for the FTC Decode season while using robotics as a platform to develop real-world engineering, software, and teamwork skills. Team members are organized into mechanical and software subteams, collaborating through the full engineering design process—from brainstorming and CAD modeling to fabrication, testing, programming, and iterative improvement. Using tools such as 3D CAD, drivetrain analysis, and block- and Java-based controls, students gain hands-on experience with industry-relevant practices.
Beyond competition, JavaJuice is committed to expanding STEM awareness in our local community. Starting with just two students, we intentionally recruited classmates and discovered limited exposure to robotics programs in our area. In response, we have made community outreach and FIRST recruitment a core pillar of our work, aiming to inspire younger students and build a sustainable pipeline into robotics and engineering.
Guided by FIRST values of collaboration, respect, and gracious professionalism, JavaJuice seeks to learn from STEM experts, connect with other FTC teams, and apply robotics to real-world problem solving. Grant support will directly enable student learning, community outreach, and the long-term sustainability of our growing robotics program.
