Hirola Conservation Program and Somali Giraffe Project
by WILDLIFE CONSERVATION NETWORK INCHirola are one of the world's rarest antelope and are on the Critically Endangered Species list. The Hirola Conservation Program is an indigenous, non-profit organization based in Garissa County, Kenya, and originated from a global concern about the decline in hirola populations. HCP is working to reinstate and restore the Arawale National reserve to protect hirolas.
Little is known about the giraffe population along the Kenya-Somalia border. The Somali Giraffe Project is working to establish the population of reticulated giraffes in Eastern Kenya through a community-based conservation project.
