1) Respect, not pity: The children we work with are treated with at least the same respect that we would treat our own sons and daughters, brothers and sisters.
2) Development, not charity: We work to help children develop fully as they grow, through providing a broad range of experiences and opportunities. Rather than simply provide a handout, we provide a hand-up for those who choose to better their circumstances and themselves.
3) Empowerment, not dependency: Our role is to provide opportunities for children to pursue as individuals rather than to force our views or values on the children.
4) Collaboration, not control: Our staff work alongside the children and their families, so that the beneficiaries are involved in all stages of our work, rather than simply being recipients of charity.
5) Massive interventions, not quick-fix solutions: We tackle the problem of poverty from every angle rather than focusing on one obvious cause or effect. Our interventions may take years, as we persist until we are successful.
We run the following programs to help children get back on their feet:-
1) Stay in School: Blue Dragon provides over 850 children from poor families in 3 provinces who are at high risk of dropping out of school with uniforms, stationery, text books, school bags and school fees.
2) Step Ahead: Blue Dragon’s Outreach Team and Drop-in Centre are the first contact for children in crisis in Hanoi. We provide emergency care and long-term opportunities to break out of poverty for at least 400 vulnerable children at any one time.
3) Safe and Sound: Blue Dragon rescues children trafficked for child labour in Vietnam. We return children to their families, provide long term support, educate communities and assist in prosecuting traffickers.
4) Project X: Blue Dragon rescues girls/young women trafficked out of Vietnam to the Chinese sex trade direct from their places of slavery. We follow up with all the care needed, from health checks and counselling, to long term educational support.
